DBR-Network
Scientific network: Design-Based Research as a methodological framework in educational research (DBR network)
Educational research is faced with the challenge of generating fundamental findings and selecting appropriate approaches for its object of knowledge; at the same time, there is a justified expectation that findings from research will trigger developments that can be used to both reactively change educational practice and proactively make it fit for the future. The frequently observed gap between educational research and educational practice proves to be an obstacle to this, with the result that scientific results sometimes only remain in the research community or take effect after a long delay. Design-based research (DBR) is a methodological framework concept that demonstrates how educational research can successfully combine fundamental knowledge and practical applicability. DBR can be characterised as intervention-oriented, cyclical-iterative, contextualised and based on the principle of research through design. The network "Design Based Research as a Methodological Framework in Educational Research (DBR Network)" utilises the expertise of researchers from subject-specific didactic research, vocational education research and higher education research in order to anchor DBR more firmly in the German research landscape as a methodological framework for specific research questions and to expand and establish the scientific-theoretical foundation of DBR. The systematic linking, discussion and further development of existing approaches across different educational contexts can and should contribute to increasing the quality and theoretical yield of DBR studies. The planned working meetings (1) on the current constitution and orientation of DBR in educational research, (2) on the epistemological core and the scientific-theoretical foundation of DBR and (3) on the methodological-practical realisability and communicability of DBR will lead to publications and provide impetus for subsequent collaborations and applications. The involvement of young researchers and the long-term establishment of the exchange over the duration of the funding programme should help to anchor DBR in the landscape of educational research.
