TaLeS – Transformation von Lehren und Studieren unter digitalen Bedingungen
Trend studies from the perspective of teachers and students at the University of Hamburg
In the summer semester 2020, all face-to-face teaching had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and switched to digital teaching. Funded by the Hamburg Centre for University Teaching (HUL), researchers at the HUL and the Evaluation team conducted one of the accompanying studies on Emergency Remote Teaching (BERT). A total of five reports can be found in the BERT project archive.
Building on BERT, a total of three teaching staff surveys were conducted as a trend study in winter semester 2020/21, summer semester 2021 and winter semester 2021/22. The aim of the study was to record the didactic development of university teaching under digital conditions from the perspective of lecturers, to identify changes in the link between research and teaching, among other things, and in this way to improve the information base for the didactic support and qualification of lecturers at UHH. As a large comprehensive university, the UHH can be seen as a case study for the development of teaching under digital conditions, so that in addition to the practical benefits for the university, a scientific knowledge value for the higher education didactic community was also expected.

Trend study from the student perspective (TaLeS study programme)
Building on BERT, a trend study from the student perspective has been running since winter semester 2020/21 (until further notice), which is being conducted by members of the Evaluation team. The aim of the study is to follow up on the digitalisation processes triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic from the students' perspective and to document the transformation after the end of the containment measures. The results of the student survey will also be used as a basis of information for the further development of UHH's degree programmes and made available to the relevant quality circles. In addition to results with practical benefits for the university, the study also promises to provide scientific insights that will contribute to expanding knowledge about research-oriented university teaching using digital technologies.
