HoDaPro - New higher education didactic professionals - professional roles and professional development in higher education didactics as a contribution to quality development in the third space
Project objective:
HoDaPro is a BMBF-funded research project to investigate the structure and development of professionalisation processes of those working in higher education didactics. It also investigates how the organisational framework of higher education didactic institutions in universities influences the professional work of higher education didactics.
Short description:
University management and education policy expect funded programmes for the quality development of studies and teaching (e.g. Teaching Quality Pact) to also lead to quality improvements at the organisational level of teaching and study quality. Some of these projects explicitly aim to bring about such organisational development in teaching.
These projects involve employees from all disciplines who bring different expertise to the table. Since they are often novices in higher education didactics, they often do not see themselves as higher education didactics experts with organisational development tasks. Based on findings from surveys conducted by the German Association for Higher Education Didactics on the professionalisation processes of those working in higher education didactics and with recourse to research on higher education professionals (HoPros), professionals in this growing occupational field are referred to as higher education didactics professionals (HoDaPros).
The focus of this research project is to investigate the professionalisation processes of university didactics professionals from two perspectives. The qualitative study looks from the inside at the professional development of university didactics in the context of a structured one-year online-based continuing education programme. The quantitative study, which looks at the field from the outside, investigates what expectations those responsible for higher education didactics institutions and jobs have of higher education didactics and how higher education didactics institutions are integrated into the organisational structure of the university. Both research perspectives are based on a theoretical framework model that integrates concepts of pedagogical professionalism and approaches to educational governance in conjunction with organisational pedagogy.
