Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the enquiry of lecturers into their own teaching and their students’ learning. Scholars of Teaching and Learning, i.e. lecturers who are active in SoTL, look at their teaching with a questioning and researching attitude, use research methods and theoretical reflection to further develop their teaching and gain insights into student learning in their own subject. They exchange ideas in informal groups, at conferences or via publications. At HUL, we are actively engaged in SoTL, but we also conduct research on SoTL and support lecturers in implementing their ideas.

Transfer perspective
Knowledge from research on SoTL, as well as our own experiences with SoTL, are integrated into the support services offered to lecturers at the University of Hamburg as well as into the Master Higher Education. Moreover, we are actively involved in the German-speaking SoTL network and maintain exchanges with the international Decoding the Disciplines community. Through publications, we contribute to the visibility and further development of SoTL.
