Prof Dr Kerstin Mayrberger's professorship at HUL currently focuses on digital transformation and higher education with her research and development projects (see Kerstin Mayrberger's research profile for more details).
Since 2020, Kerstin Mayrberger has been increasingly focusing on the role of digitality and ambidexterity in theory, practice and transfer in the educational context as part of the DUA project and, in this context, published the framework Agile Educational Leadership as a freely and openly accessible online book in 2021.

In addition to the activities directly based at the HUL, Prof. Dr Kerstin Mayrberger was the academic director of the BMBF-funded SynLLOER project at the Universitätskolleg (Digital) in the context of the digitalisation of teaching and learning until 2019, as well as the corresponding sub-project HOOU@UHH at Universität Hamburg, including the Media Lab and OpenLab, as part of the cross-university joint project of the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU).
In addition, Prof. Dr. Kerstin Mayrberger published the open access magazine "Synergie - Fachmagazin für Digitalisierung in der Lehre", which appears twice a year as a print edition, PDF and ePUB, as well as the series "Sonderband zum Fachmagazin Synergie" and "Synergie-Praxis".
