Prof. Dr. Kerstin Mayrberger has been teaching and researching at the University of Hamburg since 2014. There, at the Hamburg Center for University Teaching and Learning (HUL), she is a professor of teaching and learning at the university with a focus on media didactics, and her research focuses on digital transformation and higher education.
In the current project "DUA - Digitality and Ambidextry", Kerstin Mayrberger is investigating the role of agile values and principles for education in digitality. Current findings and developments are brought together in the approach "Agile Educational Leadership" (AEL), and further developed and published as an open and freely accessible online book. This current research focus builds on previous work on and the interplay between learner-centered constructivist didactics, participation, and openness, including broader perspectives on contextual conditions for the development of Open Educational Practices (OEP) in light of the ongoing transformation of higher education in digitality.
Kerstin Mayrberger was the Digitization Officer for Teaching and Learning at the University of Hamburg until 2020 and a member of the steering group as well as strategic steering group of the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU) until 2019. As a scientific director, she gained experience in large third-party funded projects on the digital transformation of higher education (including the cross-university development of the Hamburg Open Online University and the University College) until 2019. At the end of 2019, her book "Partizipative Mediendidaktik. Designing (Higher) Education under the Conditions of Digitalization" was published by Beltz Juventa open access. Until 2019, she was editor of the open access journal "Synergie - Fachmagazin für Digitalisierung in der Lehre" within the University College. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD).
Previously, Kerstin Mayrberger was a Professor of Teaching and Learning with Digital Media and Media Pedagogy at the interdisciplinary Institute of Media, Knowledge and Communication at University of Augsburg (2011–2014) and Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning with Digital Media and Media Pedagogy at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (2009–2011). In 2007 she awarded her PhD for her dissertation on students’ collaboration with computers in student centered education (German: “offener Unterricht”) in German primary schools. She studied education at University of Lüneburg and University of Hamburg (1996–2002).
